The tour is good. The only problem I had with it was the people there also at the newer places. First, a pack of kids pushing by our entire group in the line to see things as if it were a race, with seemingly no adult supervision at all. But that's not my tour operators responsibility. Just my experience. In looking in the doorways (you weren't allowed in many rooms), one would turn around to be met by someone who was hostile to you because you spent (GASP!) FIVE WHOLE SECONDS looking in the doorway, and their precious Jean-Luc had to wait their turn. The other thing is...what sense does it make to convene your group in packed area? STOP DOING THAT! You can convene your group a whopping 10 feet away and accomplish ALL the same things without getting people pressed. Convening your group at an ingress/egress is a sign of lack of intelligence. Stop doing it.
Not a pleasant experience. Specifically the bus ride portion. It was a 3.5 hour ride each way with no working toilet on the bus. But even worse than that the driver and guide insisted on playing the radio the entire ride. So I was forced to either suffer through the music they were playing on the bus or blast my iPod into my ears loud enough to try and drown out what they were playing. Neither of which was enjoyable. It seems the smartest thing to do would be keep the bus quiet. That way customers who want silence can have it. If a customer does want to listen to music along the ride then, considering it is 2018, thy more than likely have some sort of music playing device that allows them to listen to the type of music that THEY CHOOSE to listen to rather than being forced to listen to whatever type of music the bus driver likes to play. I personally like to read on a long ride like this and it is not condusive to doing so when the bus driver insists on playing the radio the entire trip. Peace and quiet would have been nice on this trip. I also let the tour guide know I wasnt pleased with his but she did nothing. One last thing there are no power outlets on the bus anywhere so be sure to bring and external battery or your phone will be dead by mid day.
The day was excellent from start to end. The bus arrived on time and both our guide and driver did welcome us. Our guide was excellent, providing information about Romania, its history as well as its current state. Was funny and happy to answer any questions we had. Not only did he suggest what we could do in our free time, but also what to avoid, which we found very useful.
Despite the relatively bad weather was snowing all day long, the driver was very careful and we felt safe all the way to the castles and back. Peles castle and the village around it are very nice. Can't say the same for Bran castle though..a bit of a disappointment although our guide had prepared us but it does worth the visit, as you cannot visit Romania without visiting Bran castle. Brasov was very beautiful and has a traditional city centre. We would have liked to spend a bit more time there but the weather did not allow us to stay any longer!
The tour was very good. We had an excellent guide. Not only were the castles magnificent but I came away with a much better understanding of Romania and its history. I would mention that the tour often goes significantly longer than the 12 hours in the write up. This is due to the very challenging traffic in Romania. My tour left at 8:00 AM from the hotel and I did not get back until almost 10:30 PM. I would highly recommend the tour.
