231 anmeldelser
If your Mediterranean cruise stops off to see Rome, Civitavecchia will be your port of call. Situated 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Rome, this busy cruise port is your gateway to the Eternal City, with most visitors opting to spend a full-day shore excursion in the capital of Italy.

The Basics
Most tours departing from the port of Civitavecchia to Rome cover a lot of ground, lasting between 8 and 12 hours. Included on almost every city highlights tour are stops at the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the Spanish Steps. To tour Rome’s other major attractions, such as the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Vatican Museums, you can choose from thematic day trips, such as an imperial tour of ancient Rome that includes entry to the Roman Forum or a baroque church tour featuring Vatican City and a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Or, book skip-the-line tickets to make time for all three. Other popular day trips from Civitavecchia combine wine tasting with a visit to the Tuscan countryside or the hilltop town of Tivoli.
Most shore excursion tours include pickup and dropoff at the cruise terminal.

Port Information
Be prepared to swap your money for euros. ATMs offer the best exchange rate, but banks and ‘cambio’ booths are also readily available. It may sometimes be a challenge to communicate given that Italians speak fast in their native language, but it should be easy to find English speakers in the tourist areas. All major cruise lines dock at Civitavecchia, including Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival, Costa, Oceania, Celebrity, Holland America, Seabourn, and Regent Seven Seas.
