On this small-group gourmet tour of Lisbon, wind your way through the city’s beautiful streets and get a taste for the local cuisine with stops at traditional restaurants and bars. Tantalize your taste buds with delicacies like petiscos (a variety of small portions of food), bacahlau (dried and salted cod – one of Portugal's most traditional dishes) and tremoucos (Lupini beans).

Cafe Nicola, one of Lisbon’s greatest cafes, is your first stop. An 18th-century building, it has been the place for literary gathering since it opened. Next, discover why Pastelaria Suiça in Rossio is such a popular place for pastries, and learn the secrets of success at Manteigaria Silva, open since 1908. Ogle the delicious products on display, such as sausages, hams and cheeses. Here, learn the history of Port, Portugal’s famous fortified wine, as you try it with a piece of delicious São Jorge cheese. Later, compare your Port with a typical Portuguese cherry brandy at A Ginjinha, and try a bacahlau cake at Cafe Beira Gare.

If you have a sweet tooth, you will enjoy the walk by Confeitaria Nacional, the oldest confectionery shop in the Baixa district, as your guide leads you to Casa Brasileira. Try the famous pastel de nata (custard tart), one of Portugal's most famous pastries, and learn why many Portuguese sweets have Catholic names.

Then it’s on to Cervejaria da Trindade, once one of the most important convents in Lisbon and now a restaurant famous for its seafood and steaks. Sample a local beer and tremoucos and then head to the garden of São Pedro de Alcantara and the steps of Calçada do Duque, two areas with a great variety of restaurants and nice views of the city. Finish your gourmet tour with a light meal (local bread, cheese, sausage and other local products) and a glass of Alentejo wine at the Neo-Moorish Casa do Alentejo, a 17th-century palace with one of the most intriguing interiors of the city.
